Germany releases final roster for European Championship

The German Baseball and Softball Federation (DBV) announced a 25-man roster for the upcoming European Championship. With Markus Solbach reaching the playoffs with his minor league team in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization it’s not yet decided if he will be included on the team since he won’t be available for the entire tournament.

Germany otherwise can rely on the services of pro players Nadir Ljatifi (Cincinnati Reds) andSven Schueller (Los Angeles Dodgers). Donald Lutz (Cincinnati Reds) and Pascal Amon (Los Angeles Dodgers) have to pass due to injuries. Major Leaguer Max Kepler of the Minnesota Twins obviously is not on the team as active MLB player.
The coaching staff with Martin Helmig, Ruggero Bagialemani, Don Freeman and Troy Williams decided to carry 13 pitchers, including eight which will make their European Championship debut in Hoofddorp. Overall it’s a mix of veterans including Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez, Simon Guehring and Andre Hughes and up and coming players like Marcel Jimenez, Tim Stahlmann or Philip Schulz.
Germany is coming of a second place at the Yoshida Challenge in Senart. During the first round in Hoofddorp they will square off against the Netherlands, Sweden, Russia, Great Britain and Czech Republic. In 2014 they finished in fifth place in the final standings. Their last medal was won in 2010 in Stuttgart. All games of the German National Team will be broadcasted in English via radio on www.meinsportradio.de
