Canada announced roster for the U-18 Baseball World Cup


Canada announced their 20-man roster for the U-18 Baseball World Cup that they are going to host in Thunder Bay from 1 through 10 September.

Greg Hamilton manages the coaching staff. Former Big Leaguer Mike Johnson will serve as coach, and former National Team players Chris Begg, and Hyung Cho will serve as assistant coaches.

Canada finished sixth in the 2015 U-18 World Cup, but in the past won a gold medal (1991), a silver medal (2012) and 4 bronze medals (1983, 1987, 1997 and 2006) in the competition.


They will debut in the tournament against Chinese Taipei on 1 September.

Italian Baseball League Semis: “ASD Rimini” vs “Unipol Bologna”


“ASD Rimini” won the decisive game five of their semi-final series against “Unipol Bologna” to join “T&A San Marino” in the Italian Series.

Rimini defeated Fortitudo 5-4 at Gianni Falchi stadium in Bologna to decide the thrilling best-of-five series. Rimini had won games one and two in Bologna, but Unipol fought back and tied the series with two wins in Rimini.

Italy U18 Juniors travel to Canada for Baseball World Cup


Team Italy U18 manager John Cortese along with coaches Rolando Cretis, Stefano Cappuccini and Gianluca Marenghi have been working diligently to prepare their squad for the U18 Baseball World Cup.
Based on the team’s overall record, Italy will be placed accordingly in the U18 Baseball World Cup Super-Round from September 7-9, 2017. The top four nations will compete in the U18 Baseball World Cup Championship Medal Round on September 10, 2017.

Eric Brenk remained three more years with Bonn Capitals


German national team utility man Eric Brenk has extended his contract with the Bonn Capitals for three more years.

The 25-year-old is currently playing his third season for the Capitals. During the regular season Brenk batted .333/.440/.469 with two home runs, 29 runs scored and 17 RBI in 24 games.
He came to Germany in 2014, playing for the Bad Homburg Hornets.


Netherlands announced Roster for U18 Baseball World Cup


The Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Association (KNBSB) announced their roster for the upcoming WBSC U18 Baseball World Cup in Thunder Bay, Canada.

The tournament will be played from Friday, September 1 to Sunday, September 10.
20 players, including ten pitchers and three professional players, got invited by the staff with manager Eric de Bruin and assistant coaches Martijn Nijhoff and Ben Thijssen.

Baseball at 2017 Universiade: Japan shuts out USA in Gold Medal Game / Czech finishes 4th


Japan has won the baseball tournament at the 2017 Universiade in Taipei City.
They defeated the United States 10-0 in a one-sided Gold Medal Game. Japan led already 7-0 after two innings and never looked back. The US batters managed three hits overall against Masato Morishita, Hiromasa Saito and Daiki Sakamoto.
The Czech Republic, which had lost their semifinal 4-8 against the United States, finished in fourth place after losing 2-6 to Korea in the Bronze Medal Game. Russia claimed sixth place after a 1-7 loss to Chinese Taipei. France finished in seventh place after an 11-5 victory over Mexico.

Results British National Baseball League August 27, 2017


In the British National Baseball League the regular season ended this past Sunday.

The Southampton Mustangs beat the Essex Arrows in both games of their doubleheader. The London Mets captured two wins through forfeits against the Brighton Jets.

Dutch Hoofdklasse Playoffs L&D Amsterdam suffers first loss


The second of six weeks of the Dutch Hoofdklasse semifinal round robin is in the books.
On Sunday L&D Amsterdam suffered their first loss in the playoffs, losing 6-8 to HCAW. It was a low-scoring game for the first seven innings. In the top of the eighth HCAW broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run single by Kevin Weijgertse.
The team from Bussum added four more runs in the top of the ninth. In the bottom half of the last frame Amsterdam put four runs on the board, but with the bases loaded Kenny Berkenbosch flied out to center field to end the comeback hopes.
In the second playoff game on Sunday Curacao Neptunus Rotterdam downed the Hoofddorp Pioniers 9-2. Rotterdam decided the game with a four-run sixth inning. Jan Tomek picked up the win in relief of Kevin Kelly. Curacao Neptunus and L&D Amsterdam are now 5-1 in the semifinal round robin. Next weekend both teams will meet for the first time in the round robin.

In the Belgian BBG the Borgerhout Squirrels won twice against the Royal Greys. The Deurne Spartans first lost a mid-week matchup against the Mortsel Stars before taking two from LLN Phoenix.

In the Swedish Elitserien two doubleheaders concluded the regular season this past weekend.

On Saturday the Rättvik Butchers beat the Stockholm Monarchs in both ends of their twin bill. On Sunday Leksand took two from Sundsvall in their rescheduled matchup after last week’s rainout.

Baseball at Universiade 2017: European Teams lose on Saturday


On Saturday the semifinal round robin and the consolation round robin continued at the baseball tournament of the 2017 Universiade in Taipei City. 
Petr Zyma scored in the first inning for the Czech Republic against Japan, but the favorite answered with three runs in the second and three in the fourth en route to an 8-1 win. Arnost Dubovy collected three hits. Stepan Havlicek got charged with the loss. The Czech Republic now will face the United States in the semifinal on Monday.
In the consolation round Russia didn’t have a chance against Chinese Taipei. The hosting country scored seven runs in the second and six in the fourth of a 15-0 blowout. Kirill Chermoshentsev had the lone hit for Russia. Nikolay Chermoshentsev took the loss.
Meanwhile France also lost in the consolation round, 5-8 against Mexico. France was able to cut a 0-6 deficit to a run after eight innings, but Mexico added two more runs in the ninth to close it out. Leonel Cespedes scored twice for the French team. Jorge Hereaud drove in two. Owen Ozanich picked up the loss.
In the fourth game of the day the United States prevailed 6-4 over Korea.

Sundbyberg Heat got one more victory over the Stockholm Monarchs



A game between the Sundbyberg Heat and the Stockholm Monarchs was played in the Swedish Elitserien. The Heat used an 11-run fifth inning en route to an 18-5 victory.

Seven different players scored multiple times for Sundbyberg. Brent Page crossed the plate three times and drove in three as well. Alexander Johnson pitched four innings of one-hit relief for the win. Linus Holmberg scored twice for the Monarchs. Markus Wallin got charged with the loss.

Results of the Ukrainian Championship 2017, Division “A”, Round 4

6 matches were held in Division “A” during the 4th round of the Ukrainian Championship 2017.
“BioTexcom – SDUSHOR-2” lost to the team from Rivne city “Zahidnyy Vohon” during the first game with the score 3-0. Nevertheless, the “BioTexCom – SDUSHOR-2” from Kirovograd region took the lead and outplayed “Zahidnyy Vohon” during the second game with the score 11-8. Unfortunately, the taste of the victory wasn’t long enough. “BioTexCom – SDUSHOR-2” was once again defeated by the “Zahidnyy Vohon” team with the score 3-14.
The “BioTexCom – KNTU” met with the team from Chernivtsi city “Sokoly”. As a result, the team from Kropivnitskiy city “BioTexCom – KNTU” beat “Sokoly” during the three game series with the score 18-3; 15-5; 16-2.

Baseball at Universiade 2017 KOR, TPE rebound with lopsided wins over FRA, CZE


The baseball tournament at the 2017 Universiade in Taipei City resumed played after an off day on Monday with four first-round games on Tuesday.
After France and Czech Republic stunned favored teams on Sunday they came back to earth two days later.
France lost 0-12 in the morning against Korea. Five runs in the second and six in the seventh blew the score open. France managed just three hits in the contest by Norbert Jongerius, Jorge Hereaud and Leonel Cespedes. Cespedes also drew the start on the mound, allowing seven hits, six runs and seven walks in six innings to take the loss.
The Czech Republic dropped their game against Chinese Taipei 0-11. Five runs in the first and four in the third decided things quickly. Similar to France they also captured just three hits in the game. Arnost Dubovy, Tomas Junec and Petr Zyma reached with hits. Jan Vasourek didn’t make it out of the first, allowing five runs on six hits and a base on balls to take the loss.
The third European participant Russia played much better compared to the 0-19 blowout against Japan on Sunday, but still lost 6-10 against the United States. The US squad led 10-1 midway through the sixth, when Russia added five runs afterwards. Nikita Monakhov went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Aleksandr Tarasov took the loss, issuing three hits, two runs and three base on balls in two innings.
In the fourth game of the day Japan beat Mexico 7-2. On Wednesday the preliminary round ends with France and Czech Republic battling it out in Group A for a spot in the semifinals. Russia faces Mexico.

Markus Solbach named Pitcher of the Week for second time


Germany’s right-hander Markus Solbach was named pitcher of the week in the Can Am League for a second time this year.

The hurler of the Rockland Boulders showed a good result to earn the honors. He improved to 8-3 with an ERA of 3.84 in 15 starts for Rockland. He struck out 69 and walked 19 in 96 innings so far. It’s his second season with the Boulders.

British National Baseball League Results



On the second to last game day in the British National Baseball League the Southampton Mustangs and the London Mets celebrated two wins each. The Essex Arrows also picked up two wins after forfeits over Brighton Jets.

In the Belgian BBG play resumed after a three-week break due to the U23 European Championship.
The Borgerhout Squirrels and Deurne Spartans split a two-game series. Borgerhout still remains comfortably in first place. The Brasschaat Braves also shared wins against the Louvain La Neuve Phoenix. The Royal Greys celebrated a pair of 9-7 wins over the Mortsel Stars.

Baseball at Universiade 2017 France, Czech Republic with stunning wins on day one

The baseball tournament at the 2017 Universiade in Taipei, Taiwan started with strong performances by two of Europe’s three participants.
In early afternoon France stunned host Chinese Taipei with a 4-3 victory. France was trailing by three runs entering the bottom of the ninth innings, but came back to win it. The game-winner came on a dramatic error, as Chinese Taipei’s center fielder dropped a flyball from Felix Brown, allowing three runs to come around and score ending the game in walk-off fashion. Norbert Jongerius had three hits for France. Owen Ozanich pitched 7 1/3 solid innings. Vincent Debove earned the win.
In the evening the Czech Republic followed suite. Against Korea they won 4-3 thanks to run by David Neveril in the top of the ninth. Matej Hejma collected three hits and three RBI, as the score was tied 3-3 since the fourth inning. Michal Sobotka got the win. Josef Chilar the save. Jan Novak had issued three runs on seven hits and a walk in seven innings to start the game. Meanwhile Russia lost their opening game 0-19 against Japan. Team Nippon scored in each of the five innings played, including nine times in the second. Andrei Lobanov got charged with the loss. Artem Kulik and Nikita Monakhov collected the two lone hits for Russia’s offense.
In the fourth game on day one of the baseball tournament in Taipei City the United States edged out Mexico 3-2. On Tuesday France will face Korea, while the Czech take on Chinese Taipei. Russia squares off against Team USA.

Dutch Hoofdklasse Playoffs: Week one


In the Dutch Hoofdklasse playoffs week one of the round robin is in the books. L&D Amsterdam and Curacao Neptunus look poised to play each other in the Holland Series, sweeping their opening series against the Hoofddorp Pioniers and HCAW.

Amsterdam completed the sweep with a 4-1 victory on Sunday. Robin Schel pitched six strong innings for the win. Luuk ter Beek got charged with the loss. Dudley Leonora accounted for the lone Pioniers run with a solo home run.

Curacao Neptunus meanwhile beat HCAW 8-2. A six-run rally in the sixth blew the score open. Gregory Muller scored three runs, while Jochem Koedijk went 3-for-3 with three RBI. Ian Delemarre took the loss.

Results German Baseball-Bundesliga Interleague


In the Interleague in the German Baseball-Bundesliga game day number three of four was played.

The Heidenheim Heidekoepfe are still in first place. The Munich-Haar Disciples follow in third place after sharing wins against the Dohren Wild Farmers.

Meanwhile the Mannheim Tornados won game one against the Solingen Alligators. In game two Wayne Ough and Solingen survived 17 hits by the Tornados in a 5-2 Alligators win. The Untouchables Paderborn and Mainz Athletics were stuck in two long games with Paderborn winning game one 10-8 and Mainz the second 10-7.

Results Swedish Elitserien August 19, 2017

In the Swedish Elitserien only one of two scheduled doubleheaders was played this past Saturday, as the Sölvesborg Firehawks lost both games to the Rättvik Butchers.
In game one Rättvik was out-hit 11-7 by Sölvesborg, but still prevailed 9-4. Trolle Brandt scored three times. In game two the Butchers won 1-0 with Benjamin Little scoring the lone run in the fourth. Three pitchers combined to throw nine shutout innings.
The matchup between Sundsvall and Leksand got rained out.
