The Ukrainian Baseball Championship 2018 is currently in progress. Matches are held in Ukrainian cities, and local teams show their best results.

Borgerhout Squirrels won the CEB Cup 2018 tournament!

The Borgerhout Squirrels defeated the Bonn Capitals 2-0 in the final of the 2018 CEB Cup in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

It was their third win at the club tournament in European Baseball in three straight seasons. They defeated a strong German team thanks to stellar pitching of Kenny van den Branden and former Major Leaguer Romulo Sanchez.

Arrows Ostrava finished in third place ahead of the Templiers Senart after an 8-0 shutout in the bronze medal game. BioTexCom-KNTU prevailed 5-4 over the Olimpija Karlovac, sending Croatia to the Federations Cup.

Curacao Neptunus defended the Title of the European Champions!

Curacao Neptunus has defended its title at the European Champions Cup 2018 in Rotterdam.

At their home stadium they shut out ASD Rimini 5-0. On offense Shaldimar Daantji and Quintin De Cuba hit home runs. Curacao Neptunus remained undefeated in the tournament.

Unipol Bologna finished in third place ahead of Rouen Huskies, Draci Brno and the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe (both fifth). L&D Amsterdam beat T&A San Marino in the relegation game, meaning San Marino has to start in the CEB Cup next year. Their spot will be taken by Belgium, which won it thanks to Borgerhout Squirrels’ win at the CEB Cup in Ostrava.

Ukrainians in the Top European Prospects

A pair of 18-year old Ukrainian teammates got into the list of top prospects of the European championship U23.

They are Heorhii (or ‘George’ in English) Gvritishvili and Vlad Kosenko from BioTexCom-KNTU team. The championship was held from 7th to 13th of August in Czech Republic.

During the tournament George Gvritishvili was one of the tournaments leading hitters while playing right field and pitching. Like his outfield mate, Vladyslav Kosenko appeared in the 2012 Under-15 World Cup for Ukraine. Kosenko also faired well, neither had many opportunities in the field.

European Champions Cup 2018 in Rotterdam Results Day 2, June 7, 2018

It was a memorable day at the European Champions Cup 2018 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Especially in Group A. In the morning game Owen Ozanich pitched a gem and the Rouen Huskies not only beat, but crushed L&D Amsterdam 8-1. The surprise win was followed by another upset, as the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe prevailed 3-1 over ASD Rimini with Gary Owens hitting two home runs. All four games in the pool now are tied with identical 1-1 records, which means that Friday’s first-round closers will become quarterfinal games. Rouen and Heidenheim will square off, while Rimini takes on Amsterdam. Winners will reach the semi-final.

In Group B the top two are already set. Only the order has to be determined. In the afternoon Unipol Bologna blew by league rival T&A San Marino 12-4. In the evening game Curacao Neptunus Rotterdam held off another strong but unlucky performance by Draci Brno 7-2. Bologna and Rotterdam will conclude the first round on Friday evening with a clash, which could be a potential preview for the final on Sunday.

CEB Cup 2018 in Ostrava Results Day 3, June 7, 2018

The preliminary round at the CEB Cup 2018 in Ostrava, Czech Republic ended on Thursday with four games.

In Group A the TQB had to decide the order for the qualification for the second round. BioTexCom-KNTU stunned the Bonn Capitals 10-8, while the Borgerhout Squirrels beat the Therwil Flyers 9-4. After the contest KNTU, Borgerhout and Bonn each had an identical 2-1 record. The TQB put Borgerhout in first place and Bonn in second with KNTU missing the chance to play for the final.

Bonn now will face Arrows Ostrava in the highly anticipated second semi-final on Friday evening. Ostrava improved to 3-0 with an easy 15-0 shutout over BC Minsk on Thursday. The second semi-final will be between Borgerhout and the Templiers Senart. Former big leaguer Romulo Sanchez will take the mound for the Squirrels. Senart reached second place in Group B after a crazy 20-11 win over Olimpija Karlovac.

Ukrainian players at the “MLB Academies Tournament”

The spring tournament of the European Major Leagues academies started in Sant Boi last week.

Czech Republic, Netherlands, Italy, Germany and France, as well as “European selection” team of players from European countries are among the competitors. 175 baseball players aged from 15 to 19 take part in the “MLB Academies Tournament” this year. 21 games will be played during the seven-day tournament.

It must be noted there are two Ukrainian players from the Kropyvnytskyi city among the competitors. Pitcher George Gvritishvili and catcher Viacheslav Babii became the players of the “European selection” team. Last season George has already participated in the MLB Summer Camp which took place also in Sant Boi.

European Champions Cup 2018: Results Day 1

The 2018 European Champions Cup in Rotterdam, Netherlands got underway. Four games were played.

In the morning Unipol Bologna turned an early 0-1 deficit against Draci Brno into a 4-1 win with two runs each in the sixth and seventh. Also the second Italian club in the competition, ASD Rimini, celebrated a successful opening day. The reigning Italian Baseball League champion defeated the Rouen Huskies 12-5.

The L&D Amsterdam defeated the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe with the 4-2 result. Curacao Neptunus shut out T&A San Marino 3-0. It was the expected close game between two of the favorites.

CEB Cup 2018 in Ostrava: Results Day 2, June 6, 2018

After day one at the CEB Cup 2018 in Ostrava, Czech Republic featured three mercy-rule shortened games, the second day of the competition provided more drama.

The Bonn Capitals improved to 2-0 with an 11-8 win over the Borgerhout Squirrels. Bonn led 9-0 after five innings, but Borgerhout scored 8 runs combined in the 6^th and 7^th to return to the game. However, a two-run shot by Kevin van Meensel in the 8 put the final nail in the coffin.

In the second matchup in Group A BioTexCom-KNTU erased an early 0-3 deficit against the Therwil Flyers to pick up their first win 9-7. With a potential win on Thursday against Bonn the Ukrainian team now still has a chance to reach the semi-finals.

Host Arrows Ostrava meanwhile already has won Group B. Following their opening day win over Olimpija Karlovac (14-0) they also shut out Templiers Senart 7-0 in a tense game. Olimpija defeated BC Minsk 16-13 in a high-scoring affair.

“Minsk Cup 2018” results

The international tournament “Minsk Cup” was held recently in the capital of Belarus, Minsk. The Ukrainian baseball team “BioTexCom-KNTU” has won the tournament.

In addition to the “BioTexCom-KNTU” team, among the participants of the “Minsk Cup 2018” there were the following competitors: “Lituanica” (Lithuania), “Moskvich” (Russia) and BC “Minsk”.

The “BioTexCom-KNTU” and BC “Minsk” teams met on the field during the final game. Ukrainian team won the tournament with the score 12-2. This tournament was full of impressive victories of Ukrainian baseball players: they won all four matches with the scores 19-0, 13-0, 10-4, and 12-2.

In addition to the champion title, three players of the “BioTexCom-KNTU” team were awarded individual titles: Oleg Shkatula was named “The best batter”, Dmytro Limarenko got “The best pitcher” title and Roman Boiko became the MVP of the tournament.

More than a year ago, Ukrainian team won the tournament “Continental Cup 2017” in Belarus with the same roster. Even though this year competition changed its name to the “Minsk Cup”, the tournament has saved its unique sports atmosphere.

CEB Cup 2018 in Ostrava Results Day 1, June 5, 2018

The 2018 CEB Cup started on Tuesday in Ostrava, Czech Republic with four games.

Three of them ended earlier due to run differential rules, as the favored teams prevailed in their matchups. The Bonn Capitals one-hit the Therwil Flyers 11-0, blowing up the score late in the game. Riley Barr struck out 12 in seven innings, while Christopher Goebel had a triple, a home run and five RBI.

The Borgerhout Squirrels beat BioTexCom-KNTU 6-1 in the lone nine-inning game of the day. It was a close contest until a four-run ninth inning for the reigning Belgian champion. Sam Boermans hit a pair of home runs as part of a 4-for-4, 4 RBI day. Kenny van den Branden and Romulo Sanchez struck out a combined 13. Dmytro Limarenko hit a solo home run for KNTU.

The Templiers Senart used a pair of seven-run rallies to blew by BC Minsk 17-1. Alexander Perdomo and Raudelin Legra Perez hit home runs. Perdomo put six RBI in the box score. Robert Palencia picked up the win.

Host Arrows Ostrava shut out Olimpija Karlovac 14-0 in seven innings. Terrell Joyce hit a three-run home run. Tomas Junec had four hits.

On Wednesday the day-one winners will face each other, as Borgerhout is taking on Bonn and Senart faces Ostrava.

CEB Cup kicks off 2018 CEB Competition Season

The CEB Cup in Ostrava, Czech Republic kicks off the 2018 competition season of the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB) today.

Jair Jurrjens signed with independent Long Island Ducks

Dutch right-hander Jair Jurrjens will play for the Long Island Ducks this season. The former Major Leaguer signed with the Independent Atlantic League club.

The 32-year-old was in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization last season. In June he got suspended for 80 games after testing positive.

This past winter he pitched for the Tigres del Licey in the Dominican Winter League.

Last results of Ukrainian championship 2018, Division “B”

Players of Ukrainian Major league, Division “B”, have played a couple of games of the Ukrainian baseball championship 2018 this past weekend.

Teams from the Southern group has held games of the first round. The “Dolphins” team swept a doubleheader against the “Bombers” with the score 20-9 and 25-15.

“Vorony” team has shown the best results in the North-Eastern group. Players defeated their opponents “East Vikings” in both matches – 15-0 and 10-6.

During the third round of the championship teams from the Western group also have held a two-game set. “West Side” team won against the “ROC SDUSHOR “Kolos” – Zahidnyy Vohon-II” with impressive score 22-7 and 15-0.

A revitalized Baseball Cup opens in Belgium

The Belgium Baseball and Softball Federation (KBBSF-FRBBS) is revitalizing The Belgium Baseball Cup.

The main goal, as the Federation makes clear through a release, is “Baseball and Softball promotion in Belgium and Europe”.

Participation was mandatory for all the Gold League and First Division teams. Second and Third Division teams that entered the competition made it at their will.

A total of 16 teams played in the first round on 21 May.

Round 2 is scheduled for 17 July, while round 3 will be played on 31 July.

The final is scheduled for the afternoon of 15 August 2018.

Czech Republic announces Roster for Exhibition Series against Germany, Chinese Taipei

Following the Prague Baseball Week at the end of June the Czech Republic will host the national teams of Germany and Chinese Taipei for an exhibition series in Trebic, Blansko and Brno.

Games will be played from July 4 to 12. The Czech Baseball Association already announced their roster.

Lincoln Saltdogs release Shairon Martis

 

The independent league club Lincoln Saltdogs has released Dutch right-hander Shairon Martis.

The former big leaguer got a couple of injuries and didn’t perform well enough, when he was on the mound.

Fellow Dutch national teamers Curt Smith and Dashenko Ricardo remain with the Saltdogs.

Korean Team enters Australian Baseball League for 2018/2019 Season

 

The Australian Baseball League announced that a team from Korea will enter the lineup for the 2018/2019 season.

The team will be made up solely with players from South Korea with all games being played in Australia.

Winterball Korea is the newly formed company granted the license to operate the Korean team the team in the ABL. ABL and Winterball Korea have signed a five-year agreement.
