U23 European Championship: Recaps, Day 6


The Netherlands and Czech Republic will play in the final of the U23 European Championship in Brno, Czech Republic.

The Dutch team defeated Belgium 10-5 in the semi-final on Saturday, while the Czech prevailed 7-3 over Spain.

Belgium opened the game against the heavy favorite with a three-run first. But the Netherlands answered with seven runs between the second and the fourth. Maickel Rietel pitched four scoreless one-hit innings in relief to close out the victory.

The Czech scored all seven runs in the fourth and fifth combined for a 7-0 lead. Spain scored three runs afterwards, but wasn’t able to complete a comeback.

Earlier in the day Germany and France secured their spot in the U23 A-Pool in Europe with wins over Great Britain and Croatia. Both will play for fifth place. Ukraine downed Poland 10-2.
