The preliminary round at the 2017 U23 European
Championship got concluded on Wednesday with eight games. The quarterfinalists
were already known, only the seeding list was on the line on the last day of
the first round.
In Group A the Netherlands downed Croatia 18-3, using
a pair of six-run innings to claim first place in that pool.
In Group B Spain beat Great Britain 4-1. Eric
Izquierdo conceded only one run on six hits and two walks in six innings.
In Group C Germany
celebrated a 9-8 comeback win over France, scoring five runs in the bottom of
the ninth to secure the victory.
In Group D the Czech Republic shut out Belgium 17-0,
scoring all runs in the first four innings.
