Donald Lutz has signed with the Mexican League club
Bravos de Leon. He was announced as new player together with Mitch Lively on
Tuesday. The German outfielder/first baseman Lutz already played in Mexico
during a couple of winters for Yaquis de Obregon. Now his making his debut in
the summer version of the Mexican League.
The 28-year-old Lutz was signed by the Cincinnati Reds
and spent nine seasons with the MLB organization. Last year he came back after
Tommy John surgery and batted only. In the
following offseason he went on to play 12 games for the Brisbane Bandits before
returning home to Arizona to get married.
In 2013 he made history becoming the first player
developed in Germany to reach the big leagues. Overall he played in 62 MLB
games since, but couldn’t find a new organization this winter, therefore going
to Mexico to revive his career.
