It took an extra day and extra innings to complete the Opening Round at the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup 2016 with Czech Republic lose to Venezuela, 13-12 in 10 innings. Venezuela used eight different pitchers with Leonardo Jose Mota getting credit for the win, while Štepán Havlícek took the loss with both teams combining for 25 runs, 24 hits and 10 errors. Michal Zyma homered in the loss for the Czech Republic. Both countries will begin play in the Consolation Round (7th to 12th Place).
