This summer, Ireland’s Junior National Baseball Team will travel to Zurich, Switzerland to compete in the 2017 18U European Championship Tournament. This will be the first time that Ireland has entered a team into the tournament. They will be taking on Switzerland, Poland, Belgium, and Russia.
Irish Junior Baseball National Team roster
The roster includes players from County Meath and County Wicklow in Ireland, as well as players from New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, California, and New Hampshire. All players are Irish citizens.
The recruiting and organization of the team was a joint effort by Baseball Ireland and The Baseball United Foundation, as part of BUF’s “Baseball Exchange Program.” In past years, the “Baseball Exchange” initiative has brought talented young Irish baseball players to America to attend baseball camps and it has sent American coaches and donated baseball equipment to Ireland.
Irish Junior National Baseball Team coaching staff
The coaching staff will be led by head coach PJ Fox of Rhode Island. Coach Fox was the head coach of Ireland’s senior men’s National Team when they won the bronze medal in 2004 and the silver medal in 2006.
