In the German Baseball-Bundesliga the first part of a 28-game double game day this weekend is in the books.
The big surprise was the sweep of the Stuttgart Reds on the road against the leading Heidenheim Heidekoepfe. Stuttgart won both games by a score of 6-5. Heidenheim now has lost their last four games and dropped into a tie for first, as the Mainz Athletics crushed the Bad Homburg Hornets. Also in the south the Mannheim Tornados downed the Saarlouis Hornets in both ends of a doubleheader, while the Munich-Haar Disciples came back from a 0-6 deficit to beat the Buchbinder Legionaere 10-7.
In the north the Bonn Capitals cruised by the Cologne Cardinals to solidify first place, while the Untouchables Paderborn split against the Solingen Alligators. Paderborn won game one thanks to the heroics of Marco Cardoso. The young shortstop tied the game with a sac fly in the ninth and then won it on a RBI double in the 11th. The Dohren Wild Farmers and Hamburg Stealers also settled for a win each.
