An 8-year-old boy who was born with severely deformed
legs hasn’t let his disability get in the way of playing the game he loves.
Gabe Davis, who was adopted from Ghana, gets behind
the plate for his baseball team and keeps his eye on the ball.
“I do get a little bit nervous,” Davis’ dad, whose
name was not revealed, told the news outlet. “Just like I get nervous with all
my boys when they play ball. You always want them to do well; you want them to
represent their team.”
Davis, whose two older brothers play baseball, plays
in a league for 7- and 8-year-olds where everyone gets five pitches.
“To see him actually get a base hit, it just melts my
heart because I’ve seen how much time and energy he’s put into it,” his dad
told Fox 8.
Davis has undergone 14 surgeries and gets a lift from
one of his two older brothers on and off the field.
“Gabe is fantastic, he’s all about effort – 100
percent effort,” his coach, who was not identified, told Fox 8. “He’s a pleasure
to be around, couldn’t ask for a better player or teammate.”
Davis, who has goals of reaching the Paralympics with
either Team USA or Ghana, has also taught his family invaluable life lessons.
“He brings life to everything we do,” Summer Davis,
his mom, told Fox 8. “He brings a whole new attitude to our family and a whole
new sense of joy and a sense of fulfillment.”
