The 2017 European Champions Cup will be played in Regensburg, Germany this year. The beautiful facility of the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg will host the top tournament.
Two games apiece will be played from Wednesday to Sunday, June 7 to 11 at the Armin-Wolf-Arena and Platz 1. Both fields are located right next to each other. Games start at 11am in the morning.
Group A features Curacao Neptunus Rotterdam (NED), Unipol Bologna (ITA), Rouen Huskies (FRA) and Mainz Athletics (GER). All four are the respective national champions.
Group B features defending European Champions Cup winner L&D Amsterdam (NED), T&A San Marino (SMA), ASD Rimini (ITA) and host Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg (GER). The winner will be crowned European Club Champion, while the team ranked in eighth place will lose their federation’s spot in next year’s European Champions Cup. A single round robin will be played from Wednesday to Friday with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the semifinals on Saturday. The final is scheduled for Sunday at 7pm CET.
The new format of the European Champions Cup, which was introduced last year, leads to exciting games from day one to day five. The favorites are certainly the teams from the Italian Baseball League and the Dutch Hoofdklasse. The Huskies won last year’s CEB Cup and booked a promotion for France to the Champions Cup. However together with the German representatives from Mainz and Regensburg, Rouen probably will have only an outside chance for the semis and look to avoid relegation.
